Venetian artist Zacaria......

Elena Bussolin goes by the name....ZACARIA. Her little shop on the calle that runs beside La Fenice....Calle della Fenice....is always an annual stop.
I love her wonderfully loose and lyrical watercolors.
Over the years she has adorned a variety of objects with her whimsical images....from her wooden picture frames to notebooks and postcards.

Every year she has something new....this year she had wonderful tassels with blown glass beads...they are 8" long....not sure exactly what I'm going to do with them...but they are treasures I couldn't resist! While I was visiting this year, a lovely Venetian lady of years was buying a few more to fill in her hand. Zacaria mentioned that the lady was using them to hang on doors.....I wonder how many doors she has? I wonder which palazzo they are adorning......

Zacaria's little shop is a treasure chest of delights......well worth a stop.
Reasonable prices are a bonus!!

  1. Totally cool! And, to think she was right on my doorstep. Shame on me, I must learn to be a shopper.

  2. Yvonne, I'm really not a shopper...til I come to Venice. There are so many talented people, making so many different and exciting things....I just can't help myself!

  3. I purchased two totally sweet watercolors by Elena when I was in Venice in 2008 and would love to own more. Unfortunately, she does not have a website : ( , and short of going back to Venice, I will most likely never own another. I wish that there was a way to convince her to make them available to the masses.

  4. I just received 1 of these bookmarks as a gift from my South African neighbour who visited Venice for the 16th time. Thanks for shedding some light on the origin of this gift with the tassle and glass bead. Zacaria’s dont seem to be prominent on digital platforms.
